As COVID-19 Cases Rise Again, All Kinds Of Grief Are Rising
Let’s face it: the pandemic is taking a toll on just about everyone.
People Have Gone Through A Range Of Scenarios
Physical sickness if they contracted the virus
The death of a loved one
The awareness of their own mortality
The loss of a lifestyle, a job, a long-distance relationship due to the pandemic.
Or simply ... grief over the life they once knew and adjusting to the “new normal” even without enduring the death of a loved one, which is often considered to be the mainstay of grief.
Anticipatory Grief
Furthermore, anticipatory grief made an appearance for some people as they live in the fear of “not knowing” anything more than the fact that something potentially deadly is happening all around them.
“Ice cream sundae” Of Emotions
I’ll admit it. I too face an “Ice cream sundae” of emotions in the course of a day.
An “ice cream sundae” of emotions is a term I use in my grief counseling practice to compare grief to an ice cream sundae. I explain how all your emotions get mixed up together like an ice cream sundae.
Grief {Sundae} Includes
For me, in the course of a pandemic day, my grief/sundae can include:
Worry
Fear
Wonderment
Despair
Concern
Sadness
Contentment
Caution
Gratitude
Courage
Joy
Peacefulness
Anxiety
Havard Business Review Insight
I’d like to share an important article published by the Harvard Business Review in the earlier days of the pandemic. It’s my hope that you’ll take some valuable insights from it.
And I wish you a “smooth” time these days as we gear up for both a surge in the pandemic and an easing of its attack, with the advent of the vaccine. You can read the article with the link below.
