I Can’t Believe This…. My Friend /Partner /Relative Was Not Supposed to Die of COVID-19
Here we are in a situation in which people of all ages, genders, races, ethnicities, professions, etc. are dying at a time when in all likelihood, they ORDINARILY WOULD NOT BE DYING.
These days in my grief counseling practice, I am hearing, “He/She was as fit as could be. He/She ate healthier than anyone else I know. He/She was SO young. He/She was never even sick for a day. He/She was SO careful to stay inside and quarantine. He/She insisted on going outside, thinking only the elderly die from this.” And so it goes.
The bottom line is this: There is no rhyme or reason as to how this virus travels around afflicting or killing its enemy ---- humans. It just does. No one knows who is under attack until they are attacked. It is out of the control of anyone or anything.
This pandemic is leaving survivors – friends, family, relatives, colleagues, peers - feeling literally, STUNNED AND HELPLESS.
Grief is a difficult experience under any circumstances, but more so, now, under these circumstances.
