For the Bereaved: New Year’s Resolutions Can Become Solutions
4 Minute Read
Let’s Talk About Resolutions
Welcome, 2023. Some people are still talking about making New Year’s resolutions, or keeping them or breaking them.
As a grief counselor, I know that the bereaved want to FIND SOLUTIONS, NOT MAKE RESOLUTIONS.
We all want solutions for our grief challenges.
How Can Our Resolutions Sometimes Lead to Solutions?
If you resolve, for example, to do something nice for yourself every day this may turn out to be a solution to help your body and mind from feeling worn out all the time.
That “nice thing” that you do -- a haircut, a manicure, an hour of watching Netflix -- may help you cheer up, if only for a little while, or feel better about yourself and your well-being.
If you resolve to cry when you need to, laugh when you can --- both without guilt, this might be a solution to your being upset or embarrassed about crying all the time or not laughing enough.
